The Accord goes on to acknowledge that the Industrial Revolution and consequential burning of coal and petroleum are prime causes of todays greenhouse gas issues and that the countries in Europe and North America that became rich in the process have an obligation to support developing countries to come up to reasonable levels of economic development without similar burning of fossil fuels.
